| An aha moment recently happened to me when I had surgery last month. December is not the best month to be in the hospital especially right before Christmas. At first my friends and coworkers did not understand why I picked the week before Christmas to have two surgeries. People are so busy during that time and devoting all their time and finances to gift buying. I chose that time so that I would not have to take so much sick leave from my work at a school. I knew that folks may not show up to see me and was prepared for that. I did however expect a few who assured me they would be up to see me after the operations. I also have muscular dystrophy and push hard everyday to continue to participate in my current life as a full time nurse, grandma, wife and mother of two grown kids. Those who know me are clearly aware of how hard it can be for me to carry on. The weather was icy and visitors were quite sparce. After the first two days without much company in the hospital the flowers started to come. First a bouquet of white lilies with ornaments, then tulips and then daisies. All adorned with christmas decorations. As I lay there recovering and bored I took pictures of my flowers with my phone and sent them to kind souls who remembered me. I was so pleased to have the flowers and every time someone came to my room they commented on the smell of the lilies and tulips. It made me feel special, loved and cherished. During my recovery at home I spent a great deal of time online. Of course on ebay! I found a website that intriqued me, a flower store. I have been an avid gardener for me entire life and continue to garden from my wheelchair. I found a website that looked like a good chance to try and sell something online that I am passionate about. It is my hope that this site will succeed and help me as I move through the stages of living with a progressive muscle disease. Flowers really do make a difference. Send someone you love flowers and brightern their life they wont forget your expressions of kindness and love. |
